Meditation Apps for Every Personality!
Is it just me or constantly trying to live in the pursuit of a stress-free state of mind is HARD. Behind my smile, I’m mostly feeling frantic, hurried and all sorts of disheveled. Things happen at an anxiety-inducing speed giving me serious whiplashes!
I used to get irritable whenever anyone would suggest I try meditation. I’d already decided it didn’t suit me: I get distracted easily, fidget intensely, and look nothing like a zen goddess. It took a whole lot of convincing and a slew of apps for me to really understand what being still is all about.
Meditation, as it turns out, has benefits that exceed far beyond the realm of my understanding. It’s good for your heart, helps calm anxiety, helps you sleep better, creates healthier habits, and even improves your relationships. Granted, it’s not an easy discipline to follow. But like any other form of art, the more you practice, the better you get.
I’ve rounded up a few apps that might help you kick things off – even if you’re just looking to dip your toes in.
If you’ve never meditated before
– Stop, Breathe & Think
If you don’t know where to start or how to meditate, then this app is perfect. It prompts you to take 10 seconds to think about how you feel mentally, physically, and emotionally, and then offers a handful of meditations tailored to your state of mind.
If you’re too restless to meditate
The Mindfulness App offers a no-nonsense way for beginners to try meditation, helping you to go from zero to zen in moments. Mindfulness is the state of being consciously aware of the things around you and this app helps you focus on your present and deal with situations better.
If you don’t like hearing voices
– Relax Melodies
If (Like ME!) you prefer to fall asleep to the sounds of soft rain or rustling leaves, then this app is for you. Relax Melodies helps you drift off to over 50 peaceful and calming melodies that you can mix to create your favourite ambience. Think campfire, thunder and soft birds.
If you don’t have time to meditate
– Simple Habits
Between work, the gym, and your social life, it’s hard to find time to meditate—but nearly everyone has five minutes. With Simple Habit, you can pick one of three options for a quick and easy meditation: in the morning, during a work break, or before bed.
If you want to relax and sleep better
Forget the stresses of your day and relax your mind with this app. Calm has guided meditations for sleep, anxiety, stress and other distraction. Calm is not ideal for learning meditation, but it is good for catching a few blissful moments to do absolutely nothing.
Headspace is a slickly designed app that doubles as a personal trainer for your mind. I was also just introduced to The Honest Guys, who are a youtube channel duo that have some amazing guided meditations.
